The Baltimore Furniture Bank is a project that grew from WLOY's work with the homeless community in Baltimore. With the assistance of the Good Stuff Campaign on Loyola’s campus and members of the Facilities Department, WLOY was able to secure a tremendous number of used goods to redistribute to members of the Baltimore community in need. Incubating the Furniture Bank during its first years of development allowed it to start creating standard practices, a website (thanks to WLOY alumni donating their time), a small initial client base, and a great buzz in the community.

Damien M. Haussling, a co-founder of the Baltimore Furniture Bank, was named an Open Society Institute (OSI)-Baltimore Fellow in 2019. Simultaneously, BFB was awarded a $68,759 grant to help jump-start the project. This fellowship facilitated the growth of the Baltimore Furniture Bank from a one-car garage to a 12,000-square-foot warehouse, enabling the nonprofit to provide furniture to underserved residents in Baltimore.
